What is the Cancer Patient Family Network?

The Cancer Patient Family Network (CPFN) is a virtual community hosted by Nova Scotia Health Cancer Care Program. The CPFN connects cancer patients, survivors, family members, and friends with opportunities to help make the cancer system better.

Cancer patients, families, and friends have unique, valuable perspectives to share about cancer care. It is important to hear from people who have experience with the cancer system in order to know what can be changed to better meet people’s needs.

Why does the cancer system want my advice?

Engagement with Nova Scotians to create a healthier future is a core priority for Nova Scotia Health and the Cancer Care Program. We want to involve patients and families in planning to understand their experiences and perspectives. The result is a stronger cancer system which reflects the needs of all Nova Scotians.

What do members of the Cancer Patient Family Network do?

Members of the CPFN can choose to participate by:

    • completing surveys shared on this page
    • reviewing cancer patient/family education materials
    • joining Cancer Care Program committees
    • signing up for cancer related focus groups or workshops

These contributions are used to help to improve the cancer care system in Nova Scotia.

What will happen if I decide to be a member of the Cancer Patient Family Network?

From time-to-time opportunities to participate in focus groups, committees, and surveys about cancer-related issues, and to review cancer patient/family education materials will be shared to members via this page.

We will let you know how members’ contributions are being used to improve cancer care.

If you join the CPFN there is no obligation to actively participate or providing advice to us. Some members like to simply stay informed and read about the results of how we have used patient feedback in other projects.

Becoming a member will not impact your cancer care or overall health care.
