FAQs
What is the Drug Information System?
The Nova Scotia Drug Information System is a province-wide system that contains a comprehensive medication profile for everyone who gets a prescription filled in a community pharmacy in Nova Scotia. Your medication profile includes information about the prescriptions you have had filled as well as important medication-related information such as allergies, adverse reactions, and medical conditions.
The Drug Information System allows authorized health care providers to access your medication profile and contribute medication-related information to it. Having access to your medication profile when and where it is needed helps your healthcare providers make better decisions about your care.
An authorized healthcare provider is someone who provides or supports healthcare services in hospital or in your community, such as a physician, pharmacist, and several others.
Why is the Department of Health & Wellness (DHW) doing this survey?
The Drug Information System (DIS) Program of the Department of Health and Wellness is conducting a formal Benefits Evaluation. The objective is to determine what is working and what could be improved. (Or: "The objective is to assess the system’s effectiveness and identify areas for improvement."
Who needs to fill out the surveys?
The DIS Program Team has sent invitations to healthcare providers (pharmacists, physicians, nurse practitioners, health technicians) to ask for their input.
Some healthcare system partners have also been included.
If you are a healthcare provider or partner who is already authorized to use or would benefit from using the DIS or use the data from the system for your work, but did not receive the invitation, you are still eligible to respond to this survey.
Patients and the general public may be invited to provide feedback about the Drug Information System at a later date. They are not required to answer these surveys at the present time.
When will the Benefits Evaluation be finished?
The Benefits Evaluation will be completed before the end of 2025. You can see the project survey timelines in the Key Dates section of this website.
